HOLIDAY HOMEWORK - RESEARCH 1 - analyse 2 film openings

Step Brothers

The opening give the viewers a broad image of what the film will be like , the fact that there are two grown men who seem to be acting pretty childish , like playing air guitar and eating nacho's , indicate the film is a comedy.

The opening structure to step brothers would be titles fading in and out over a blank black screen then going into a narrative structure .

Camera -The first shot is a close up of Brennan putting some cheese on some nacho's , this helps us understand the type of guy he is as we see that at someone of his age he is still eating nacho's and cheese .Theres then another close up of Dale picking up some pants and sniffing them . within the first few shots its enabled us to establish the fact its a comedy.
Sound - As the movie beggins , there is some digetic sound of Brennans nacho bag rustling and the microwave beeping . There are people talking having conversations aswell as the tv playing .Then as some non digetic music plays over , the music is loud and has drums and guitar to liven the scene .
Editing - The main editing in this scene is the shot reverse shots as brennan and Dale both have conversations with their parents and also cross cutting when its taking us from Brennan making food to Dale sniffing underwear .There is also shot reverse shot part when Dales father is making a speech and the shot is reversed to Brennans mum showing us shes a distraction to him and something may end up happening. betweem them
Mise en scene - Food , Guitars , tv's . The lighting is not too bright but not dark either .. the way teenagers like it. They are wearing bright clothes indicating they are childish.

Love actually

The titles to love actually is descrete structured , They fade in and out of footage which is not part of the movie but could have something to do with it . The footage as not given to much away.Hugh grants voice over allows the viewers a clear illustration that the film is about love , it is also non digetic sound . The footage is quite bright and generally of happy people meeting again at airports , this gives of a very happy atmosphere suggesting that the film will end happily but then again it has not said anything to indicate it , it just makes the viewer wonder.
