RESEARCH - Analysis of students film opening (Violet)

From watching all the previous students openings , 'Violet' was the one that stood out to me most. There is a lot of stylised editing involved which helps connote tension and an eerie atmosphere such as it being in black and white in some parts . The title opening used is titles over a blank screen followed by narrative , This was good as the cutting to black screens gives us more suspense to what will be shown when it goes into narrative . The font matches the genre of the film , it also flickers for a frightening atmosphere.

Camera : There are a range of different camera shots used in the opening. Wide shot is used when we are first introduced to the girl , this enables us to have a clear view of her . However we cannot see her face which sets a mysterious Ora.

Tracking into a door is used to illustrate the feeling of us walking into a house

Close up of the girls hand is used to show us there is blood on it which makes the viewer begin to wonder .

There is also an birds eye shot which creates the effect of someone watching over her body, showing vulnerability .

Sound - Non digetic sound is played throughout the opening . It sounds very childlike which in a movie like this would create unnerving atmosphere.

Mise en scene - The girl is in a white night dress which illustrates the innocence of the character .
There is fake blood used to make us think she has really been killed making it more realistic.
The lighting is quite dark showing danger and mystery.

Editing - Throughout the opening there has been many different editing styles , the film has been in black and white from when were taking into the house . while trackking into the door , time lapse has been used. Also the scenes tend to flash .
